Foxbat Flying Training

I have heard it many times from instructors - the Foxbat can do it, but can the pilot??

The A22 is a particularly easy aircraft to fly - but to fly it well, takes experience, ideally prefaced with effective training. With the owner's safety in mind, every new Foxbat is delivered with a free 5-hour familiarisation training programme with an experienced instructor.

Although not compulsory, we strongly recommend that unless you have already flown a Foxbat for many hours (and even then it is still worth considering) you take up this cost-included programme.

The new owner familiarization programme covers:

  • a full briefing on the aircraft
  • pre-flight checks and preparation
  • a general handling and familiarization flight
  • airfield circuits with touch-and-go's
  • short field take-off and landing (STOL)
  • baulked landing/go-round
  • low speed flight with stall recognition and recovery
  • high speed flight including spiral dive and recovery
  • crosswind take-off and landing
  • practiced engine failure

In 5 hours, it is only possible to begin to cover these items but the programme will give you a good foundation on which to build experience.

Low level flying

Any flight under 500 feet above ground level (other than for take-off and landing) is deemed to be low level flight. If you are considering this type of flying, it is ESSENTIAL to take proper training with an authorised instructor. The Foxbat is a very forgiving aircraft at low level but unless you are properly trained you run a very real risk of hurting yourself or worse. Get training if you want to fly low!

STOL (Short Take Off & Landing)

Similarly, the Foxbat will take-off from and land in very small paddocks and other spaces. But what can look easy when demonstrated by an experienced pilot can potentially get you into trouble if you haven't trained and/or got the experience yourself. Get training if you want to use the full STOL capabilities of the Foxbat.
